  3. Dressings & dips: Whisk 1/4–1/2 tsp into vinaigrettes, tahini, cashew creams, or yogurt alternatives for instant garlic flavor.
  4. Dry rubs: Combine with onion powder, paprika (sweet/smoked), black pepper, chili, and herbs for versatile rubs and marinades.
  5. Instant paste: Mix garlic powder with a little water (or lemon juice) to make a quick garlic slurry for spreading or brushing.

Substitutions & Conversions

As a guide: 1/4 tsp garlic powder ≈ 1 small fresh clove in flavor intensity (brands vary). For granulated garlic, use slightly more (it’s coarser and less dense).

Onion powder, black pepper, paprika (sweet or smoked), cumin, coriander, oregano/thyme, chili, tomato paste, soy/tamari, mustard, lemon/vinegar, and nutritional yeast. Works with nearly all vegetables, beans, and grains.

Storage

Can You Freeze Garlic Powder?

Not necessary. Avoid humidity swings - freezers can introduce condensation. Store airtight in a cool cupboard; add a food-safe desiccant if your kitchen is humid.

Caking Fix

If it clumps, break it up with a clean utensil or pulse briefly in a dry grinder. Clumping doesn’t mean it’s bad; check aroma and replace if faint.
