How to make BBQ Sauce
BBQ sauce is so widely available that buying it off the shelf is often the easiest option. However, if you have three key ingredients—tomato juice, tomato paste, and smoked paprika—you can whip up a homemade version in under five minutes. The tomato juice ensures a smooth consistency, the tomato paste thickens it without adding a starchy taste, and the smoked paprika provides that signature smoky depth.
To balance the flavors, you'll need salt and a touch of sweetness. While regular salt and sugar work fine, using soy sauce and maple syrup (or agave) adds a richer taste. A splash of vinegar brings acidity - any type will do. For extra depth, consider adding garlic powder, onion powder, and black or cayenne pepper.
Simply whisk everything together and heat until piping hot. It keeps in the fridge for up to five days, but since it's so quick to make, you can prepare a fresh batch whenever you need it. Yes, it takes a little extra effort, but without preservatives and with higher-quality ingredients, you have complete control over the flavor.
